General Information

Game of Life The game "Life" was created by the British mathematician John Horton Conway in the late 1960s. The original article describing the game can be found in the April 1970 issue of Scientific American, page 120. The game of life is excellent example that shows how simple rules lead to complex behavior.

Rules

  1. The Rule of Birth
    A cell that is empty at one instance becomes occupied at the next if it has precisely three not empty neighbors.

  2. The Rule of Overpopulation
    A cell that is occupied at one instance becomes empty at the next if it has four or more not empty neighbors.

  3. The Rule of Underpopulation
    A cell that is occupied at one instance becomes empty at the next if it has one or no occupied neighbors.

How play

Game Of Life Create configuraion using mouse, pop-up menu and click on the "Start" button.
The standalone version allows to save/open position in the file.
